EDWARDS, Jack

No.14568795, Private, Jack EDWARDS
Aged 20

1st Battalion, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders
Died on Monday, 26th February 1945

Jack Edwards was born in Soham on 6th July 1924 (Newmarket Q3-1924 3B:725), baptised in Soham on 1st August 1924, son of Arthur and Beatrice EDWARDS (née BIRD), of Qua Fen Common, Soham.

In the 1939 register at 135 Downfields, Soham were his father Arthur [12-4-1903] sugar beet factory worker/ railway labourer; his mother Beatrice [15-7-1901] and brothers Arthur [8-8-1926], Henry [20-10-1928] and Cedric [19-4-1936]. There are 4 closed records.

It was just after the crossing of the Irrawaddy. Jack was the only death the battalion had that day, but they had 23 killed the day before so it is possible that Jack died of wounds received on 25th.
